Apple Pay

1st Financial Federal Credit Union is excited to offer Apple Pay to our debit and credit card users.

Apple Pay is used to pay in stores without swiping a debit or credit card and in apps without entering payment or contact information.  With Apple Pay, a user adds their card information to a supported device, and instead of using actual card numbers, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored.

When making a purchase the Device Account Number and a transaction specific security code are used to process the payment. Credit or debit card numbers are never shared by Apple with merchants or transmitted with payments.

How do I set it up?

To add your card to an iPhone or iPad, head to the Passbook app on your device and add your card information. Check out Apple’s setup guide for step-by-step instructions.

To add your card to Apple Watch, use the Apple Watch app on your paired iPhone. Apple has a great, detailed guide over here.

How does it work?

When you add a card to Apple Pay, the card number isn’t stored on your device or Apple’s servers. Rather, you’ll be assigned a unique Device Account Number, which is encrypted and securely stored within your device. When you make a purchase with Apple Pay, a unique transaction number is generated, and the payment is authorized with this number and your Device Account Number. This means the merchant never gets your card number. Limiting the institutions that have your card number reduces the odds that it will be compromised.

What if I lose my phone?

If your phone (or another device) with Apple Pay enabled ever goes missing, please reach out to us right away. We’ll prevent Apple Pay charges from being made with your phone by temporarily blocking your card, then removing it from Apple Pay. You can also deactivate Apple Pay on your end by placing your device in “Lost Mode” via Find My iPhone or “Removing All Cards” on www.icloud.com/. More details on this process can be found here.

Where can I use it?

The list of merchants currently accepting Apple Pay is varied and quickly growing in size. Apple pay is easy to use and provides great new security features—it’s totally worth checking out!

Other Tips

To ensure adding your 1st Financial debit card to Apple Pay goes smoothly, we recommend you link your card to your iTunes account. If your card is not linked to iTunes, you may be required to make a phone call to verify your card for Apple Pay.

After you’ve added your 1st Financial card to Apple Pay, it’s easy to make it your default payment option. If your 1st Financial card is the first card added to Apple Pay, it automatically becomes the default, so you don’t need to do anything. If another card is your current default, simply go to your device’s “Settings,” open “Passbook & Apple Pay,” then “Default Card” and select the 1st Financial debit card from the list of cards you’ve enrolled as your default card.

Paying in stores or within apps has never been easier.

Get started by adding your 1st Financial debit or credit card today.
