We are Alltru Credit Union

Fifty-two years ago, a small group of men and women in North County St. Louis, began pooling their funds together. They trusted one another. They started this credit union with the belief that everything is possible when people work together with integrity and trust.

We are a credit union that chooses to exist every day to meet needs that so often are ignored or avoided. We go where we are needed, showing up in communities that have been divested by the banking industry for generations, leaving only pay day lenders in their place. We are laser focused on building innovative financial tools and providing equitable access to all.

Dear Member,

Fifty-two years ago, a small group of men and women in North County St. Louis, began pooling their funds together.  They trusted one another.  They started this credit union with the belief that everything is possible when people work together with integrity and trust. They built a financial institution as a not for profit cooperative.  A place where everyone has equal ownership.  Everyone has an equal voice.  Whether they have $1,000 to invest, or $1.

That’s still true today.  Every person who puts $1 in this credit union has the same voice and ownership as our largest investors.  It’s a beautiful equalizer among all the communities we serve.  Being controlled by an elected board of volunteer directors from within the community, we all get to sleep easy every night, knowing we had no other choice but to work for the greater good of those who live, work, worship and are educated here.

For many years, we’ve existed as 1st Financial Federal Credit Union.  A name that, while common and quite institutional, didn’t tell the story of us.  The story that we have been trying to tell anyone who would listen for fifty-two years.

We are a not for profit cooperative, driven by integrity and a desire to fill the gaps of the financial service industry for all communities.  That’s our story.

So, we’ve decided to change our name to tell that story more clearly.  Our members, employees and community supporters helped us find this name.  And we are so proud, that beginning November 2020, we will be Alltru Credit Union.

Alltru is a name that reflects our collective ownership and demonstrates our shared integrity.  We are all in this together, just as we always have been.  Just as we always will be.  When you succeed, so do we, and our shared successes build a better community for us all.

I can’t wait for us all to see how this new name will finally represent who we are throughout St. Louis and carry us forward as we continue to work together as a cooperative.  We hope this new name will be a catalyst for us to better share the news that together, we are so much stronger than we are on our own.

Thank you for owning and investing in this credit union.  Your membership is making us all better.

Sincerely,

Carol Minges

Why Alltru?

For many years, we’ve existed as 1st Financial Federal Credit Union. A name that, while common and quite institutional, didn’t tell the story of us. The story that we have been trying to tell anyone who would listen for fifty-two years.

Alltru is a name that reflects our collective ownership and demonstrates our shared integrity. We are all in this together, just as we always have been. Just as we always will be. When you succeed, so do we, and our shared successes build a better community for us all.

These were the values held dear by the hardworking men and women who started Alltru Credit Union over 50 years ago. They shared their savings and borrowed from each other. And these values are still at the heart of what we do every day.

At Alltru, we are only as financially strong as the people who bank with us. That’s why we work every day to help our members be stronger than they were when they joined us. We want them to know they’re part of something special, something different.

True to our founding values, we want everyone to know we’re here to help people meet their most important
financial goals – all so they can live the lives they want to live.

We are Alltru Credit Union.

Questions you may be asking yourself

No. We have not been sold or merged with another financial institution.  We are the same cooperative that we’ve always been.  We are simply changing our name to better reflect our mission and brand.

Alltru is a name that reflects our collective ownership and demonstrates our shared integrity.  We are all in this together, just as we always have been.  Just as we always will be.  When you succeed, so do we, and our shared successes build a better community for us all.

Your member number(s) and account number(s) will remain the same.

Absolutely! We have been a strong financial institution for over 50 years and continue to be. In fact, this re-brand will allow for continued growth and stability.

Yes. The new name isn’t about outgrowing our roots or moving away from the things that are important to our team and members, it’s about helping MORE people gain access to our needed products and services.

We put careful thoughtful consideration into this. We carefully timed it to align with natural depletion of many of our materials like letterhead, envelopes, and more. It also aligns with timing for many needed updates to our signage and branch materials.  The new materials are a sound investment in our future growth.

Neither your rates nor fees will be affected by the new name. Rates and fees do fluctuate, but they are adjusted in response to market conditions, not our name.

Yes, our phone numbers will remain the same.  Our email addresses will still work for one year.  However, it’s probably best to begin using @alltrucu.org as our new email domain.  For example, hello@1stfinancialfcu.org will become hello@alltrucu.org.

Once we officially change our name, Alltru Federal Credit Union will be listed on the credit report with the addition of “formerly known as 1st Financial Federal Credit Union”. This will not affect your credit score.

If you use an outside Bill Pay service to make payments or you mail a check, we recommend that you update the Payee information to Alltru Credit Union by November 2020.

If you are set up for auto payments, those payments will continue being delivered as normal.

Your accounts are still insured by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government through the NCUA — National Credit Union Administration. The funds in your accounts at the credit union are insured up to $250,000.

You can continue to use your existing loan coupons. However, effective November 1, 2020 you should make checks payable to Alltru Credit Union. Your next batch will reflect the new name.

The look and color of online and mobile banking will change with our new logo and name. All functionality will remain the same.

You will need to perform an update on your app or refresh your browser to see the changes AFTER November 17, 2020.

While you will see the new name and logo pop up over the next several months, the name change will take effect on November 17, 2020.

Your loan will remain with Alltru Credit Union.

Your credit union is getting better! We are keeping your needs in mind and the future needs of the communities we serve.  New name.  Same mission.  Same us.

There should be little impact to you as a member. Your member number(s) and account number(s) will remain the same, as will all your products and services.

If you use the current mobile banking app, you will need to perform an update on November 17th to get the new Alltru CU app and change your bookmarked website to www.Alltrucu.org as well.

You can continue to use your 1st Financial checks and deposit slips. When you run out of checks or deposit slips, your new ones will have the new name and logo.

We will continue to use the same website address: www.TheBetterWayToBank.org and you can also use www.Alltrucu.org. The website will look different after November 17th, but you will log into online banking exactly the same way and manage your funds exactly the same as you already are.

On November 17th, you will need to update your mobile banking app to have access to the updated Alltru CU mobile banking app.

All direct deposits, payroll deductions, automatic drafts and other ACH services are transmitted using the Credit Union’s Routing number and your account number. Since these numbers have not changed, your payments should process without any change on your part.

Our Routing number will remain the same.  Our routing number is 281080739.

This name change will not require a change in staff or board. They are the heart of who we are and how we serve our community.  The new name isn’t about outgrowing our roots or moving away from the things that are important to our team and members.  Alltru is our new name.  We will remain the same us.

Your current 1st Financial debit card will continue to work as normal.  Beginning in November 2020, when the card expires or needs to be replaced for any reason, you will be given a new Alltru card.

Your current 1st Financial VISA credit card will continue to work as normal.  Beginning in November 2020, when the card expires after or needs to be replaced for any reason, you will be given a new Alltru card.

Yes!  You will still have access to over 5,000 nationwide branches and 30,000 free ATMs through the Shared Branch Network.

Right now, we only have plans to grow.  We do not have plans to close any branches but we would love to add more in the future.  We believe that changing our name will allow us to have better brand recognition and soon we will be able to add new branches to our local network.
