1st Financial Federal Credit Union Teams up with Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles and Kurt Warner’s First things First Foundation to Help a Family in Need

On Friday, April 11, Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles and Kurt and Brenda Warner of the First things First Foundation officially dedicated the first of nine homes at Ashland Meadows in Wentzville to Tara Rhodes and her family.

Rhodes, an employee of the St. Louis Urban League's Headstart program, worked as an advocate for the needy in Mississippi. Katrina cost her her job and forced her to move to St. Louis. When the St. Charles Habitat for Humanity group selected Rhodes, she struggled to accept the offer of a low interest rate home. "I've always worked as an advocate worker helping others get a home, get a car and get on their feet," Rhodes said. She contributed 300 hours of "sweat" equity in the construction of the three bedroom house. . Rhodes has never owned a home. Now she says it is a dream come true and she plans to pass on the blessings she has received. She and her son and daughter have been living in a cramped two bedroom apartment.

Rhodes was presented the keys to the home, which was fully furnished, compliments of Aaron Rents and the Kurt Warner’s First Things First Foundation provided the home with all linens, towels, washer/dryer, small appliances, and a cupboards stocked with food.

The foundation rewards single parents who have worked with an "affordable homeownership" program like Habitat for Humanity. "God has blessed us so much. That is really what this is all about," said the former Rams quarterback. "It's our chance to be able to share that blessing with other people ...deserving families that are working hard to try to start a new beginning and try to take this next step with home ownership.”

1st Financial Federal Credit Union pledged $30,000 To Habitat for Humanity in St. Charles to help fund the Changing lives, Building Lives campaign. In addition to the monetary donation, 1st Financial employees and their family donated time to help build Rhodes’ house.
