1st Financial Federal Credit Union Supports Connections to Success by Empowering the Unemployed in North St. Louis City

February 24, 2015- 1st Financial Federal Credit Union and the Renaissance St. Louis Marriott partner with Connections to Success St. Louis to teach interviewing skills and support job training in north St. Louis City. 

With offices in St. Charles, St. Louis, and Kansas City, Connections to Success is a nonprofit agency working to break the cycle of poverty through hope, resources, and a plan.  Connections to Success works in its affiliate cities to provide educational programs, job placement resources, and mentoring for men and women.

On February 3rd, 1st Financial volunteers including CEO Carol Minges, St. Charles Branch Manager Chuck Holmes, and Vice President of Marketing and Community Presence Laura Woods held mock interviews for current clients of the Connections to Success St. Louis facility on North Florissant.  Managers of the Renaissance St. Louis Marriott were also on hand to teach interview skills and find potential employee candidates.

The managers met with interviewees and provided them with sample questions and gave immediate feedback.  At the end of the exercise, the managers took part in a Q and A information session where they praised the students for their professional appearance and confident demeanors.

1st Financial Federal Credit Union Works with Junior Achievement to Teach Financial Literacy to Wentzville Students

December 19th, 2014- 1st Financial Federal Credit Union employees took part in Junior Achievement’s “J.A. Our Community” program to teach Financial Literacy at Heritage Primary school in Wentzville.

Promoting financial literacy within the community is one of the ways 1st Financial Federal Credit Union strives toward its vision of “helping people achieve their financial dreams.”  While financial seminars and informational brochures fill in the gaps of adult’s financial knowledge, encouraging financial education for youth enhances their chances to have a successful future.  In order to establish this foundation, 1st Financial is partnered with Junior Achievement in the month of November.

Since 1919, Junior Achievement is guided by core values which include a belief in the boundless potential of young people, a commitment to the principles of market-based economics and entrepreneurship, and a conviction in the educational and motivational impact of relevant, hands-on learning.

On November 25th, 1st Financial employees taught the “J.A. Our Community” curriculum to eight classrooms at Heritage Primary School in Wentzville, MO. This program, which focuses on teaching students money management skills, jobs, the role of government in finance, and the importance of voting within the community helps develop math skills, increases vocabulary, and career awareness.

“The time spent by 1st Financial employees in the classroom at Heritage Primary was greatly appreciated,” said Tracie Roberson, Program Manager for Junior Achievement of Greater St. Louis. “By sharing their experiences, skills, and abilities through the JA Programs, students were able to connect what they were learning about in school to their future.”

1st Financial Federal Credit Union Offers Support to at-risk Youth in St. Louis

December 17th, 2014- 1st Financial Federal Credit Union Continued its Helping People 1st Grant program in November by working with Youth in Need to continue crisis relief programs for youth in St. Charles, MO.

As part of the vision of “helping our members achieve their financial dreams”, 1st Financial created the Helping People 1st Grant to support organizations who are working to help members of the community achieve personal or financial success in the areas of housing, financial literacy, job training, or education. Because of their work with transitional housing and job readiness, the St. Charles branch chose to support Youth in Need in November.

Youth In Need is a nonprofit child and family services agency, headquartered in St. Charles, Mo. Youth In Need is dedicated to building positive futures for the community’s most vulnerable children, teens and families and has served the St. Louis area since 1974. Today, Youth in Need serves over 1600 children, teens, and families in six counties through educational, development, counseling, and residential treatment initiatives.

1st Financial Federal Credit Union employees volunteered at Youth in Need’s main office in St. Charles.  The employees spent the day accepting holiday gift donations, sorting toys, and distributing them out to various area locations.  The St. Charles branch of 1st Financial also accepted donations from employees and members while also promoting Youth in Need to members inside the lobby.

In addition to the fundraising efforts within the branch, 1st Financial added $500 to the overall contribution as a part of the Helping People 1st Grant.  On December 11th, 1st Financial employees presented a check totaling $610.50.

“We were very excited to help raise awareness and collect funds for such a remarkable organization, said Chuck Holmes, Branch Manager at the St. Charles location.  “I would like to thank everyone for their donations and all the volunteers that were able to come out and support this amazing organization.”

“We’re so grateful for this wonderful donation from 1st Financial Federal Credit Union and its members,” said Rob Muschany, Vice President of Development and Marketing, Youth In Need.  “Community support is essential to our daily mission of building on the strengths of the children and families we serve and helping them find safety, hope and success.”

1st Financial Federal Credit Union Vice President Michelle Rosner Elected to Board of Directors for the Missouri Credit Union Association

November 4th, 2014 – 1st Financial Federal Credit Union, located in Wentzville, St. Charles, Hazelwood, and downtown St. Louis, Missouri is pleased to announce Michelle Rosner, Vice President of Lending and Marketing, voted in as one of the four new directors of the Missouri Credit Union Association (MCUA) Board.  The MCUA is the governing body for credit unions in Missouri.

Mrs. Rosner, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate Communications with Mathematics Emphasis from Lindenwood University, has worked at 1st Financial Federal Credit Union since 1997.  Mrs. Rosner also serves as an officer for the St. Louis Chapter of Credit Unions and has been a board member for the Children’s Miracle Network of Greater St. Louis since 2013.

Mrs. Rosner was also recently voted to serve on the board of the Missouri Credit Union Charitable Foundation as a Director.  The Missouri Credit Union Charitable Foundation works for Missouri credit unions by providing education and charitable opportunities to support financial literacy projects, disaster relief programs, and other community development opportunities.

“I was thrilled to receive the news that Michelle Rosner, our Vice President of Lending and Marketing, was elected to serve on the Missouri Credit Union Association Board,” said Carol Minges, CEO of 1st Financial Federal Credit Union.  “Her passion for the credit union industry and its members, her industry knowledge, and her desire for positive change are just a few of the traits she has which will allow her to immediately add significant value to the team.”

St Louis, MO – The Board of Directors of 1st Financial Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce Carol Minges as the Credit Union’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective immediately. Previously serving as the interim CEO since June 2013, Minges replaces outgoing CEO Frank Nelson.

Board Chairman, Jim Combs noted, “Carol was the unanimous choice for CEO to lead the Credit Union into future and drive the continued success of the member-owned organization. Her dedication to the membership, the employees, and the credit union movement are unparalleled. Minges, who holds a Bachelor degree in Business and Information Systems from Indiana Wesleyan University, took on the role of Chief Information Officer at 1st Financial Federal Credit Union in July of 2008. Since that time, Carol has overseen the successful growth of innovative technologies and increased member security. Her experience in operations and information security has provided 1st Financial with the vision to increase product offering and member value over the last five years.

In response to her recent appointment, Carol was quoted as saying, “I am humbled to be chosen for the role of Interim CEO and am excited for the opportunity to continue working with a very talented team of professionals at 1st Financial. 1st Financial Federal Credit Union Opens New Headquarters in Wentzville, MO

1st Financial Federal Credit Union located in St. Charles, Hazelwood, and downtown St. Louis officially opened it’s fourth branch and corporate headquarters in Wentzville, MO on December 15, 2008.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Tuesday, December 16 onsite of the new location on Wentzville Parkway. To celebrate the opening, 1st Financial.

The new state-of-the-art 23,000 square feet facility includes a two-story atrium lobby and children’s corner, five walk-up teller stations, four drive through lanes, a drive up ATM, and a large training room that will be used for community seminars.

In addition to the branch, the building will house departments such as accounting, collections, marketing, business services, human resources and compliance. The official address of the new location is 1232 Wentzville Parkway.

“We are excited to bring the credit union difference to the growing Wentzville community. The many years of planning will finally come to fruition in 2008,” stated Nina Pilger, President/CEO of 1st Financial Federal Credit Union.

The architect firm for the project is TRi Architects of St. Louis and the construction management firm utilized is Kwame Building Group.
