June 18th, 2015- 1st Financial Federal Credit Union served Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County in May as a part of its Helping People 1st Grant Program.
1st Financial created the Helping People 1st Grant to support non-profit organizations who are focused on housing, financial literacy, job training, or education efforts in the St. Louis area. In May, the Wentzville Branch continued this support by working with Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County.
Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County is a non-profit, independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Their employees are dedicated to building affordable housing for low income families. Habitat accomplishes this by constructing energy-efficient homes with the help of a volunteer workforce and supplementing their materials budget through donations and profits from their Re-Store located in St. Peters.
Since 1996, Habitat volunteers have built 63 homes and helped over 250 family members begin a new life as homeowners and members of our community, rooted in their neighborhoods.
To support Habitat and raise donations for their programs, the Wentzville branch hosted a summer themed basket raffle throughout the month. On Wednesday, May 13th, 1st Financial volunteered at a build site in St. Charles County and helped paint doors, aerated a backyard, and added trim to windows. On Wednesday, June 3th Wentzville Branch Manager Pat Johnson presented a check totaling $719.19 to Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County.
“The volunteers from 1st Financial Federal Credit Union were terrific! From painting to helping in the yard, they were up for anything and were great at it,” said Lauren Grotegeers, Resource Development Coordinator at Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County. “We are so thankful for their partnership and look forward to more builds together”.
